ALPHA LAMBDA DELTA at the University of South Carolina

Chapter Highlights

Tradition. Honor. Excellence.

DID YOU KNOW…

  • If you were involved in National Honor Society, Beta Club, or Key Club in high school, this is the next logical step!
  • About 25% of USC’s campus leaders are also members of ALD.
  • Alpha Lambda Delta is a Greek letter honor society; if you are involved in other Greek organizations such as social fraternities/sororities, or professional groups, you can still join ALD.
  • ALD earned the 2005 USC Outstanding Student Organization award.
  • We have been a recipient of the Order of the Torch, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding chapters, in 1995-96, 1998-99, 2001-02, and 2005-06. Of almost 300 chapters in the nation USC is the ONLY chapter to have received this honor four times.
  • ALD participates in both local and national service and social activities such as Chat University, Clean Carolina, and Habitat for Humanity, and Dance Marathon. We also volunteer at local hospitals and shelters and with Special Olympics, and work in conjunction with Carolinian Creed Week to promote ethics and fairness.
  • You can make friends from around the country at the annual ALD National Leadership Workshop.
  • For the past sixteen years, we’ve hosted the annual USC Challenge, an academic quiz bowl competition for high school teams from all over South Carolina.
  • ALD regularly participates in intramural sports; we’ve had championship men’s swimming, women’s swimming, and co-rec soccer and volleyball teams.
  • Dan Burk, 2005-06 chapter president and current junior advisor, is now serving in a three-year term as a student representative on the ALD National Council.
  • In the past four years, we have had eight of our members named as national recipients of Joanne J. Trow Scholarships ($1000 each): Doug Chinery, Anne Cooper Ellefson, Dargan Gore, Kristie Etson, Mica Jenkins, Dan Burk, Courtney Connell, and Tamara Looney. Josh Black was awarded a national $7500 Graduate Fellowship in 2005. Josh Fowler received a $3000 Graduate Fellowship in 2006.
  • Each year, our chapter gives $2000 in local scholarships and chapter service awards to various chapter members.
  • The USC chapter of ALD proudly inducted over 1000 new members last year.
  • Chapter meetings can be both educational and fun! In the past, we have invited guest speakers on various topics, held trivia contests, had themed meetings, and given away door prizes.
  • Alpha Lambda Delta will never sell your personal information to third parties.
  • ALD annually helps with six major programs as service to campus projects plus others as community service.
  • For almost two decades the ALD chapter has hosted the USC Challenge, the SC State wide high school academic team competition.
  • USC students earn both graduate fellowships and Trow undergraduate scholarships from National ALD annually.
